1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted globally each year, with 9.52 million tonnes of this coming from the UK alone. To put this into perspective, today’s annual food waste worldwide could feed almost the entire population, and a staggering 6.4 million tonnes of this food is often still edible.

According to a government impact assessment conducted in 2023, food waste currently costs the UK £19 billion each year. This equates to roughly £1,000 per household – that’s £200 already gone by March.
