Gothenburg RoRo Terminal orders six Terberg electric 4x4 RoRo tractors

Gothenburg RoRo Terminal, jointly owned by DFDS and CLdN, has ordered six Terberg RT253EV electric 4x4 RoRo tractors following successful operational trials. The order was awarded to Terberg distributor N.C. Nielsen, a long-standing partner of Gothenburg RoRo Terminal. The EVs will support the terminal's ambitious sustainability goals while maintaining the high productivity required for RoRo operations. N.C. Nielsen will also provide local service and after sales support. The vehicles will be delivered in Q4 2026.

As one of Sweden's leading gateways for vehicle and RoRo cargo handling, Gothenburg RoRo Terminal plays an important role in the country's import and export chain. The terminal has been a long-term Terberg customer and currently operates a fleet of more than 70 Terberg RoRo tractors. Following extensive testing of the RT253EV, the terminal concluded that the electric vehicle delivers the performance, reliability and operational flexibility required for demanding daily operations.

Göran Dittmer, Technical Manager at Gothenburg RoRo Terminal, comments: "We aim to reduce the CO₂e intensity of our operations by 75% by 2030, from a 2022 baseline, and we see the electric tractors as being competitive with conventional diesel-powered machines from a total cost of ownership perspective. Feedback from our drivers has been highly positive. During the trial, the RT253EV demonstrated the comfort, performance and reliability we require in our daily operations, giving us confidence that the new tractors will become an integral part of our fleet."

This deployment further supports the company's long-term decarbonisation initiatives and its ongoing efforts to improve all aspects of terminal operations. Gothenburg RoRo Terminal aims to avoid consumption of fossil fuels in where possible across the operation. The terminal already uses HVO fuel for its existing fleet of Terberg RoRo tractors and other heavy equipment to reduce emissions. In addition, shore power connections allow vessels alongside the quay to switch off their diesel generators while berthed. The introduction of electric RoRo tractors represents another important step in the terminal's journey towards more sustainable operations.

The Terberg RT253EV electric RoRo tractor was introduced in late 2025. It is available with a 300 kWh or 200 kWh battery system. The 4x4 vehicle delivers the traction required for steep RoRo ramps. As with all Terberg RoRo tractors, it has a swivelling seat so the driver always looks in the driving direction for greater safety and productivity. The electric motor eliminates the need for a gearbox, giving the driver a smoother ride and further reducing maintenance effort. The RT253EV features Terberg Connect telematics for effective fleet management and maintenance planning.
